our Story…

Welcome to Bistrot Max!

With over 25 years in the food and drink industry, we have built our reputation within the warm, welcoming atmosphere of traditional pubs.

Our journey began in 2000 at The Red Lion in Hollington and after seven years we decided to take over The Saracen’s Head in Shirley. We ran both pubs side by side for two years, before deciding to dedicate our attention towards our favourite, The Saracen’s Head, and ended our time at The Red Lion. This was the right choice for us, as we stayed there for sixteen years until January 2022! During our time at The Saracens Head, we built up a loyal and supportive customer base, many of whom dined with us for years. We were also fortunate to work alongside an exceptional team, with some of them still working with us at Bistrot Max.

Our work has been recognised with several accolades, including being named Derbyshire’s best “Out of Town” Food Pub and receiving multiple listings in the Michelin Guide.
